Adult Learning

Knowles' Adult Learning Theory or Andragogy - Simplest Explanation Ever: there are differences in how children and adults learn—this video explains the differences and gives some ideas your instruction can be more effective for adult learners.

Remote Teaching Resources

How to Use Google Jamboard for Remote Teaching: Jamboard is a free Google app that can be used for a variety of interactive activities and can easily be used with Zoom.

KWL Strategy: great strategy for discovering what adult students already know, allows students to share information, and frames discussion around a topic. Very usable with Google Jamboard.

What is an Exit Ticket?: Using Exit Tickets in the Classroom: although this video focuses on using exit tickets with children, the more sophisticated versions of exit tickets used later in the video are perfect for engaging adult learners in reflection on their learning and allows the instructor to formatively assess what the student is learning. They are also great in guiding discussions

Other Resources

Setting Smart Goals: SMART goals can be adapted for students (or instructors) attempting to set goals for the learning process or spiritual and magical practices. Smart goals are easy to write and can provide the thought and oversight that leads to success.

Wish, Outcome, Obstacle, Plan (WOOP): Andrea Joy presented an amazing lesson applying the research-based WOOP process to improve outcomes of spiritual and magical work. We often don’t want to engage in “giving energy to negative thoughts,” but I find that having a piece of magical work comprehensively mapped out, including any obstacles that might be encountered, leads to increased success. Another video on WOOP that walks through the process can be found here: Wish, Outcome, Obstacle, Plan (WOOP).

Giving and Receiving Feedback: a short TED series video on giving feedback. Simon Sinek’s thoughts on Feedback can be found here: Create a Culture of Feedback.
